Day 3: June 19th, 2013 : Bellville, IL to Springfield, MO

June 18th 10pm thoughts:

We have been so blessed so far to be able to stay in homes of friends.  We have had warm meals, even warmer company and conversations, showers, and air conditioning! During my shower this evening I was apparently reminding the Little Miss about being thankful for a nice clean and private shower too much.  She remembers some of our Alaska trip, but thankfully her memory has forgotten all of the not so fun shower memories: only cold water, showers that you had to run out of in public to hit a button to keep the water going after thirty seconds, showers where you became more dirty than you had been by using the facilities, showers where the water pressure was so high you could feel it peeling off multiple layers of your skin, showers where you couldn’t find enough change to rinse all the soap off in time…  Anyway I am thankful now because I know what may come.

Day 2: June 18, 2013: Gillespie, IL to Bellville, IL

Matt and Wendy’s house

We had a nice and relaxing day to chat and watch the kids play.  The kids enjoyed a short walk and bike ride to the old railroad bed where they like to ride the quads. The tracks used to connect the local coal mines.  Brooke was being quite the daredevil driving as a blur along the flat stretch.  The area reminded me of the Polar Express with the houses lined along the railroad route.

Day 9: Saturday, July 23rd: Springfield, MO to Home

We left our friends’ home at 7:30 this morning.  We weren’t sure if we were going to be able to make it all the way home, but the kids did a great job entertaining themselves today.  We are at nine and a half hours in the car and almost home and we are happy to report there have been no major meltdowns.  Scott timed the rest area breaks well and we even played briefly at a park after our lunchtime break at a McDonald’s play land.  Speaking of the play land.  We originally stopped at the McDonald’s in Litchfield.  Just in case you are headed that way, their play area is harder to get to than usual.  See pile below.

Day 1: Friday, July 15th: Home to Starved Rock

Back “on the road again,” I hear Willie singing in my head as I paint an outline of the adventure we will see on this year’s road trip.  His internal tune comes rolling to a stop about 30 miles into the trip when we hit our first Wal-Mart.  Those of you who know us realize that we will leave no stone unturned when it comes to our quest to visit every Wal-Mart in the country.

Day 2: Utica to Springfield, IL to Horseshoe Lake, IL

Cody started stirring at 5:30, but I kept my eyes closed and hoped he would to. Brooke woke me up around 6:30, but I explained I would be a much nicer mommy if I could sleep just a little bit longer. At 7:30 Brooke was completely dressed and no longer willing to wait. Then the memories of last night came flooding back and I decided I should move a little faster.

Day 77: Wednesday, August 18th – Jamestown, North Dakota to Home

I woke up shortly before seven Central time to what I thought were a lot of planes flying over.  After I thought about the multitude of planes in my semi-conscious state I realized that there must  be something else making noise since towns in the middle of nowhere don’t usually have a plane rumbling through every minute or so.

Day 2: Continued

It is difficult to choose between my two favorite titles for today.  “Are you kidding me?” or “Holy Tantrum Batman!”  More to come later.  Let’s just say we didn’t make too many friends at the campground and our first campground showers were interesting! :-)  I hope you are having an “interesting” day too!
