July 26, 2016-Day22-Custer, South Dakota to Badlands, SD

Scott woke up at 7 and was in line by 7:15 to buy tickets at 8 for a Jewel Cave Tour. When Scott arrived there were already five people in front of him.  At 8am when he left the line was crazy long.  When we arrived for our 10:45 tour the line was still long.  When we finished our tour there were no longer any tickets left for the day.

July 28, 2015–Day 22 Cumberland Gap Day 2

This morning we had critters all over the van.  A cicada decided our van tire was a great spot to lost his shell.  A fuzzy caterpillar decided  he liked our cooler.  Something else like our cooler in the middle of the night because I heard its little claws clatter against the metal holding the cooler.  The kids and I headed off to find water for breakfast.

July 12, 2015–Day 7 Mammoth Caves Day 2–Incredible Awesomeness

Scott and I both popped our heads up at 5:45 to the sound of rolling thunder. Last night was the first night on this trip that we slept with the fly off.  We almost made it the whole night without rain.  The thunder gave us a nice fifteen minute warning to get up and get the fly on.  We might have been up for the day, but we discovered something last night.  We now know why Cody is so skinny.  He frequently practices Kung Fu moves in his sleep and Scott has the bruises to prove it.  We rested in the tent until 7:45, but not much more sleep was had. Scott cooked up some porridge with a twist.  We had plenty of time to hop on the 10am Domes and Dripstones tour.

Day 43: July 29th, 2013: Craters of the Moon, ID to Yellowstone, WY

Scott rolled out of the tent a little after six for a fifteen mile bike ride along the Crater’s of the Moon Loop Road, twice.  We had a light sprinkling of rain at about 7:30.  Which I only mention because we had gone “topless” again last night.  The rain was just enough to rinse off the half inch of dust that had accumulated on the outside of the tent since being in western Oregon.

Day 38: July 24th, 2013: Humboldt Redwood State Park, CA to Oregon Caves

We stopped in Crescent City to try and get some information on the Oregon Caves and check out their library.  Appearances can always be deceiving.  The library was a glorified trailer, but it had incredible Internet.  Like most libraries we have encountered in the west we had to wait until they opened at 11.  Yesterday we had to wait until 12 for the library to open.  Cody pointed out the beautiful flowers and actually asked for a picture by them.  While we waited for the library to open we headed to a magnificent park.
