July 22, 2017 Day 18 Greenville, SC

Our bed and breakfast host took us out canoeing and kayaking on the Saluda River that runs right along their property. Scott and David went to drop his truck off at the take out and we left right from where we were staying.  We were on the river less than two hours, but the time went by way too quickly.

July 20, 2017 Day 16 Delray Beach, FL

We were actually up and ready to leave for the beach with sunscreen on and everything, but then we checked on the sheets we were washing and realized they didn’t quite get through the spin cycle.  So we are sitting in the dark, ready to go waiting on the washer to finish. All the laundry needs to be done today in preparation for leaving early tomorrow morning.  Scott was up early sweeping the roof while I cooked some chocolate chip pancakes.  We started and ended the day with chocolate.

July 19, 2017 Day 15 Delray Beach, FL

The alarm went off at 6, but we didn’t actually get out until 8:10.  The kids were actually snuggling when we woke up.  They quickly separated before we had a chance to get a picture and evidence of them being cute.

July 16, 2017 Day 12 Delray Beach

The kids were actually snuggling together when we woke up.  Scott tried to take pictures, but the kids scurried away when he came in the room.  I had intended to make blueberry muffins, but realized there was no muffin pan only this morning, so I made blueberry bread instead.  Brooke opted for sausages instead since she isn’t much of a berry fan.  Scott and I got in a half hour run around the neighborhood.  We finished watching Apollo 13 and got ready to head to the beach.  Scott also reserved our first Air Bnb.

July 15, 2017 Day 11 Delray Beach, FL–Everglades

There is now a family tradition of visiting Everglades National Park in the most mosquito infested time of the year.  Scott had the opportunity to do so when he was a kid and he has now passed on the beautiful tradition to our children.  When Scott was a kid he even had the opportunity to camp in the ninety degree, high-humidity heat and go on a hike. We gave our kids the same opportunity today, but somehow they didn’t bite.  No pun intended.  Okay.  It was totally intended.  We were very underdressed compared to the others, less than ten, who also joined us at the Flamingo Visitor Center on a beautiful Saturday. Many of the national parks we visit our swamped on the weekend. Again pun totally intended. The experts at Flamingo Visitor Center all had on long sleeves, cargo pants, hats, and nets. We coated ourselves in bug spray and suntan lotion, but somehow we were still walking tasty morsels for the mosquitos.  Every now and then I might exaggerate on a few things, so let’s check the Skeeter Meter at the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center, the first visitor station that we stopped at.

July 13, 2017 Day 9 Delray Beach Lazy Day

We slept in until 9.  I made a breakfast casserole, Scott got the bikes clean and ready for a ride, Cody crafted, and Brooke worked on getting the meat out of her coconut and she swept?  Wait. She swept?

July 12, 2017 Day 8 Delray Beach–Kennedy Space Center

The alarm went off at 5am eastern time.  Despite the relaxed evening before, we are all a little sleepy.  We wanted to get to the Kennedy Space Center at 9am, their opening time. It is a two and a half hour drive and factoring in a half hour for a bathroom break or two we needed to leave by six.  We actually left by 5:55, before the sun had even made an appearance.
