July 12, 2018 Day 9 Marquette, MI

The radar picture is actually calm compared to what roared through the early morning hours while we were attempting to sleep in the tent. As promised, since it was raining, Scott turned the van towards McDonald’s instead of cooking breakfast in the rain. That also gave us the shelter needed to set up appointments with some realtors in South Carolina for next week. The picture above Scott at McDonald’s was unique. A sled race right through town. I had no idea that I would see a 3D artistic representation of it in under an hour.

July 11, 2018 Day 8 Marquette, MI

So…we decide to have breakfast burritos again. What can we say, they were good. I loved that we were having vegetables on a daily basis, which is sometimes a camp luxury. We headed out to explore the campground we were staying at since it was the number three item listed for Marquette on Trip Advisor.

July 10, 2018 Day 7 Marquette, MI

Today was burrito day. We had egg and sausage burritos for breakfast and steak burritos for dinner. In between we went for a bike ride.

July 8, 2018 Day 5 Wells State Park, MI to Marquette, MI

Drop off day! The kids are heading to Camp Batawagama today. They were extremely helpful in cleaning up camp and loading up the van today.

July 9, 2018 Day 6 Marquette, MI

Last night Scott and I headed to the store to stock up on food. I went down one aisle, Scott went down another and said he’d be right back. Ten minutes later I was looking up and down the aisles trying to find him since I was ready to go. I finally found him talking with an employee named Tom. Tom works demos at the store. He had just finished doing a demo on ice cream sundaes. He and Scott had been talking about Honey Buns and Rice Krispie Treats and the best deals, and Tom offered Scott his leftovers from his demo day. Tom gave us four large beautiful peaches, an entire container of vanilla yogurt, and chocolate syrup. He offered for us to come back some more days at the end of his shift to get more too. Thanks to Tom we had a delicious breakfast of cantaloupe, peaches, and vanilla yogurt.

Scott’s bike was begging to be taken out and Scott decided to hang on and see where his bike would take him. He did an out and back of 27 miles.

I love the peaceful sleeping pictures. It is so hard to get pictures of these guys these days, and I’m sure they would be mad if they knew I took them, but I made sure they weren’t drooling before I took the pics.

The apple cobbler that was abandoned in the Dutch Oven the night before, due to the rain, became a very delicious start to this morning.

July 4, 2018 Day 1 Home, to Kohler Andre State Park, WI

So here it is, never thought we’d say it, but this is most likely the last family summer road trip vacation from Illinois. This time next year the goal is to be heading to a new home in South Carolina. It’s a steamy 88 degree day. Time to leave the air conditioning and private showers in search of connecting with nature and each other.

July 21, 2017 Day 17 Delray Beach, FL to Greenville, SC

We said goodbye to Casa Delray shortly before 8. The alarm went off at 5:30. The target time to leave was 7. I called that a success being only an hour off. Scott said, “Not so much.”
