July 18, 2016–Day 14- Lake Jeanette, MN

The weather was perfect for sleeping in and snuggling.

Scott was working on tying knots with Brooke. Brooke being a practical application gal practiced her knots by tying Cody to his chair.

Brooke was teaching Cody how to walk on water.

Today’s canoe mission was to discover the islands of Lake Jeanette. Cody was having fun dropping water down my back, which worked out well on this slightly warm day.

The kids were turning every song I could think of into a potty song.  The giggles were a perfect opportunity to sneak in a photo.  Scott had told us about the famous Boundary Water island pit toilets. He said this one was fancy compared to the usual toilet seat on a hole he had seen previously.

We enjoyed picking out which island we would paddle to next.

Brooke steered us to this island.  I’ll never forget the first thing she said after she asked Scott for some guidance and started to feel a little confident in her steering skills, “I like being in charge.”  Scott and I were completely shocked by this.  She did a great job.  It was a proud family moment.  Brooke worked hard, faced a challenge, asked questions, and did well.  Scott was very patient and taught not only Brooke, but also myself how to steer.

Cody picked me flowers on almost every island.  During dinner a chipmunk came to visit inside the Bug Out shelter and then couldn’t get out.  We tried to help him out, but he was so scared he resisted our efforts to even lift the walls of the shelter up.  He did give us a good laugh though.

After our canoe trip we enjoyed some Taco Mac for dinner, a fire, and visiting with our camp neighbors.  Our camp neighbors had a four and seven-year-old. The mom was a Spanish teacher. She shared some incredible stories of her B.C. (before children) adventures.  One of the stories she shared was of cold water showers in Costa Rica.  Scott takes a cold water shower almost every morning.  He wonders why I haven’t started taking cold water showers too.  Despite the research on the benefits of cold water showers I don’t see myself leaving my long warm showers anytime soon.  It was a little piece of the warm feeling of home having campsite company.

Another remarkable sunset and full moon.
