Scott’s early morning mountain bike ride around Fanniehoo.

This morning Dad went on an early morning bike ride at 6 and woke us up, but then we went back to bed and did not actually roll out of bed until 9:30. Dad cooked up some breakfast burritos. The flies were brutal the day prior and we were hoping they would be better and they did let up by a little bit. So we ate breakfast while swatting flies. After breakfast while Dad packed up everything and mom worked on the blog, Cody and I filled up waters. Our first stop of the day was a nature sanctuary. It was a long way down a gravel road. When we arrived at the sanctuary Dad and Cody made hiking sticks while mom and I did our hair.

Cody thought this log had a smiley face on the end of it.  Cody needed one little break during the hike.

We went on the Cathedral Trail which had blue triangles on the trees to mark the pathway. Cody used his hiking stick to touch all of them. On our way back to the parking lot Dad said, “We had no crying on this trail!” After the nature hike we headed to a lighthouse in Eagle Bay, but we found a beach a little ways before the lighthouse and we decided to swim at it. Dad pointed out that there was barely anyone in the water and mostly everyone was on the beach.

Tadpoles were all over the little channel of water everyone was playing in.  Some tadpoles had no legs, two legs, and we even caught one with all four legs and still had a tail.

We all tested the water and it was freezing cold. Dad was the only one that jumped in at first. Then Cody and Dad built a dinosaur with sand while mom and I caught tadpoles. I convinced mom to jump into the freezing cold water 3 times. Cody did not jump in, but he enjoyed splashing everyone. Then we got in the car and headed down the road a little ways to the light house.

Esrey Park - our favorite beach/roadside picnic area

Once we arrived at our favorite sunset seeing site/beach Cody and I jumped right out of the car. Cody went to his rock throwing site and I went to my “house” My house is an area that you have to climb to and you can also touch the water there. Mom and Dad took a while to get out of the car but when Dad got out he set up the hammock. Dad pretty much stayed in the hammock. Then I worked on the blog while Mom and Dad laid in the hammock. After I blogged a bit I went up to my house with Cody and there was a family taking pictures. Cody found a frog and the 3 kids all came over and started picking the frog up. I was scared for the frog because every time someone would put the frog down, someone else would pick the frog up and bring him to a new location. When the family left Cody and I watched the frog and decided to name him Jumper. Mom also came over and looked at the frog. After about 5 minutes of watching and petting Jumper Dad came and said it was time to go back to the campground.

When we got back to the campground Dad put his bike back on the roof, got in his biking clothes, and we were back on the road headed up to the top of the mountain. We dropped Dad off at the top of his mountain bike trail and then went back down the mountain to our campsite.

Scott’s Brockway Mountain drop-off downhill bike ride: The Flow to Daisy Dukes.

When we got back to the campground from dropping off Dad, Mom went and checked out the showers while Cody and I played on our tablets. When Mom got back from checking out the showers mom told us to get off our tablets and it was time to take showers. As we were just getting off our tablets Dad rode up and said his trail was great. After we took showers dad cooked up some hot dogs for dinner. Cody and Dad went to throw/skip rocks into lake Fanny Hoe and Mom and I went to the fort after dinner. At the fort we talked to a ranger and she told us about some cool Jr. Ranger programs. Then mom and I went through the whole fort and our last stop was a log cabin where they lived and it was hands-on so you could lay in a trundle bed, pretend to wash clothes, set the table, pretend to cook dinner, and play with the toys they had back then. Mom and I played checkers most of the time. I would have stayed longer but mom said it was time to go. When we got back Dad and Cody had already started a fire. We sat around the fire until it was time to go to bed.
