We woke at 6:30 and left our campsite around 7:30.  We headed to the small hot springs park called Iron Springs with exactly one picnic table.  The Crawford Family who founded Steam Boat Springs described the delicious taste of iron water lemonade. Interesting…

Life cereal was the nutritional breakfast of choice.  We had Scott to Steamboat Bike Park by 9:20 am.

He rented a full suspension bike and protective gear for three hours for $83 with a ten percent off coupon.  He rode down four times.  Scott said he had a great time on his ride.

While Scott was biking down the mountain at insane speeds we headed to the park and the library for some calm relaxing time.

The kids had more fun watching the mini excavator at the park than playing at the park.

Cody was a super monkey working the monkey bars.  The kids thoroughly enjoyed walking along some slack lines a kid had set up at the park.  The kid was pretty impressive with his jumps, flips, and spins.

We could have sat on the comfy bench seats, but the kids were really digging the cushions on the floor.  We read a stack of books before we headed out to get some lunch and get Scott.

Scott was up at Thunderhead Mountain at 9,080 feet at Steamboat Bike Park.

We met Scott where we dropped him off a little after 1 pm. We then headed to a fantastic mini beach in front of the Sheraton. We met a gentleman, Bob, last night at our dispersed (dirt road) camp spot last night who works at the Sheraton who mentioned it.

Cody cannot keep his hands out of dirt and sand.  I was joking, but still slightly serious, with a mom at the mini-beach that Cody can’t even stay out of the dirt in a parking lot.  Sure enough Cody had to play with the dirt along the path back to the car from the beach.

We headed down the road to Dinosaur National Monument at about 2:30.

Brooke mentioned to Scott that there aren’t many campgrounds in Illinois.  Scott said, “Well Illinois is not a super outdoorsy place and it is lacking beautiful mountains.”

Brooke responded quickly, “I want to move out west!”

Scott whispers, “Yes!  The brainwashing continues.”

Scott is hopeful the kids will move out west someday so we can retire out this way and still have the kids too.

About 5:30 we noticed the air conditioning wasn’t working and the car began to make some funny noises. Funny how just as we head into the hot hot weather the air decides to go out.

We met Carol, Robbie, and Marion last night at our campground. They came over and cooked s’mores with us around our campfire. Robbie was a former river rafting guide and mountain biking guide. Scott and Robbie never even got to discuss that, even though Brooke and I knew Scott would love to. They spent their time talking about future family river trips. Robbie worked hard at trying to transform Cody’s Optimus Prime, but he had just about as much luck as I did. Marion brought over a very cool light-up beach ball and Brooke found her beach ball too. The kids ran around tossing the beach ball and a Frisbee and playing Lego’s. They had quite a lot of fun together.

I couldn’t get Cody to stand still for a picture, so I caught him mid-air jump from the picnic table.  And he wonders why he is covered in cuts and bruises…
