Scott patiently waited for us all to wake up, but announced at 8:30 that he couldn’t sit any longer.  So we had a quick snuggling session and wrapped everything up for the last time on this trip.

While we were wrapping things up the ranger came by and noted that we hadn’t yet paid as we drove in rather late.  Last night’s bill? $49.  Ouch!  Camping was $14 a night, but for a day pass at WI state parks it cost $10.  Thus one night of camping in WI is $24.  We decided to go for the annual pass since we will be up in WI at Devil’s Lake in a few weeks with the extended family. The annual pass is $35.  It will be interesting to see how the prices have changed once the kids are old enough to go camping on their own.

When Scott and I traveled the country for a year in college, between 1997 and 1998, we took a picture of the ridiculous gas price in Death Valley.  The price was $1.76 a gallon.  We think the actual price of gas then was close to a dollar.  It is funny how what we thought was so ridiculous back then would be a welcome relief today.

After a super easy breakfast of cereal we were on the road by 9:30.  200 miles to go…

The last few miles have been some of the worst as far as kid behavior goes.  At least the distraction kept us from being too sad about wrapping up the trip.

We arrived home shortly after 1.  Time to clean up and then enjoy Sunday dinner with the extended family.

Final Mileage: 142,500
