We said goodbye to our last Wal-Mart for a while in Palmer this morning before we headed back on the Glenn Highway towards Valdez.

Scott wrote the following while Brooke was still grinning from ear to ear from the excitement:

After sitting most of the day we did a short hike up to a hilltop to look over the cit of Valdez and Prince William Sound.  The peacefulness of dinner atop a hill overlooking Valdez and listening to live waterfront music was very appreciated.  Following dinner we went to our not so peaceful campsite along Prince William Sound, but we will never forget this sight because we had a first for Brooke.

Holy Cow we are so proud of Brooke!  She caught her first fish tonight off Angel point in Prince Williams Sound.  We think it was a Pink Salmon, but in any case, it was on her first cast.  Fortunately, a guy named, ironically, Cody, was fishing near by and came to help.  As Brooke was reeling the line in it wasn’t even apparent that she caught a fish because the line caught on a rock.  Wearing waders, Cody walked out to unsnag the line and then realized that Brooke had a fish.  Brooke then gleefully reeled in the remaining line with a little help from Dad when the fish fought.   After I tried to knock the fish out with a rock Cody again helped us by using a much larger rock.  He also gave us some instruction on filleting it, though I get to take credit for the butchered filet on the right!

The seagulls happily dined on the extra parts of the fish including some fish eggs.  After we cleaned up and came into the tent, Brooke kept on asking about the fish eggs. After we told her she said, “don’t tell me about the babies any more.”  However, she was still grinning from ear to ear with the excitement of having FINALLY caught her first fish.

Yeah!!!
