Day 50: Thursday, July 22nd Hidden Lake

We met a wonderful couple at Hidden Lake Campground.  Jack and Sandy were incredibly generous of their “quiet” time together to be not only understanding of our two cuties, but kindly offered us use of their brand new row boat and took an instant liking to the kids.  They even found part of a fishing pole for Brooke to use for her very own fishing pole.  Scott attached a string and a bobber on it for her.  We at least caught some interest from the baby minnows with a raisin from our campsite.

Scott made rice and potato patties for lunch.  We have never made the recipe and we were glad we did.  It was delicious.

We hiked 2.1 miles plus another ten minutes to our campsite each way.  All told and hour and forty minutes. The mosquitoes were pretty bad. The kids look like they have chicken pox this morning from all of the bites

Brooke and Scott went out fishing two other times in addition to our family row first thing in the morning.

Cody had a two and a half hour nap. Yippee!!

Scott thinks this is why he was up most of the night doing his Cody alarm.  Cody doesn’t usually cry in the middle of the night unless something is really wrong, he does a sort of hum instead.  Sandy described it as a bumble bee stuck between her back and her chair.  Scott thinks it sounds like a low pitched moan.  Either way it isn’t as horrible as screaming, but it is still an effective means of waking me up, and consequently the entire campground.

The picture on the left is the view from our campsite.  The picture  on the right is of a loon on the lake.  It makes such a unique call.

Can you see the animal Brooke found on a hike with Scott?

Brooke’s smile says it all.  She has been begging to go on a boat almost everyday of this trip.

Cody sat stunned and lost in his PFD for a few minutes and then he was eager to explore.  In the picture on the right you can see how I spent most of the ride.

Scott wanted to explore a mini cave.  Brooke was scared, so she put on her best “I’m scared” face for us.

Some very kind high school teachers from Colorado had excess fish and offered Scott some.  He was very excited to fry his first super fresh Alaskan Salmon.

Cody was loving this hike.  He held onto Scott’s hat strings like they were reigns and kept pulling.  “Giddy up Dadda!”

When Brooke wasn’t crying on this hike she asked me to take a picture of the berries on the left.  Scott and Cody are on the right at the top  of the hike.

When we did get to the top of  the hike Brooke was so excited she took out her latest collected stick and began singing.  She wouldn’t even stop singing to smile for the pic.

This is the Lochness monster of Hidden Lake.  Actually it is a moose that decided to cross the lake by swimming.  Sandy happened to catch this amazing sight and shared it with us.

Scott and Brooke went fishing one more time after Cody went to sleep.  It was an incredibly beautiful sky.  With all the rain that we have had I was like a bug to light bulb.  I could have taken a thousand pictures of the sun.

Thank you Sandy and Jack.  You gave us incredible memories.
