Wow! What a rainstorm yesterday. While we drove from Saskatoon it blew and rained hard all day and briefly into the night. As they say, the faster a storm moves in, the faster it clears out. And today is no exception. Today is an overcast, but no rain!

They call this area the “Badlands of Canada” and I have to agree. The terrain is just like the Badlands in South Dakota. Flat prairie for miles upon miles and then BAM, the earth opens up to reveal colored canyon walls striped with grey, black, and orange. Beautiful as it is, Drumheller is very much of a tourist area, it seems that everyone with a plot of grass in their backyard also has a campground. Instead of staying in someone’s backyard we found a great little provincial park called Bleriot Ferry Provincial Park, just 15 clicks outside town.

I’m watching the little boy while the girls are off an exploring dinosaurs at the Royal Tyrrell Museum. I can’t speak much to dinosaur history of the area as of yet, but from what I understand this area has a considerable heritage. I can’t wait to hear about it from Brooke. It’s quite the trip when she explains everything that she learned.

April just loved the Museum!! I’ll let her talk about it in another post.

Back at camp after another ferry ride across the Red Deer river, which Brooke just loved, we had the fortune of meeting 3 bike-packers from Seattle who are doing a 5 day loop from Calgary. We spent a while chatting with them and learned of a unique place to spend the night. As it turns out, there is a church in an abandoned town called Dorothy not far from here where they spent last night.

I also met a local named Chris, doing an overnight canoe trip with the Boy Scouts, who shared a few other things for us to check out. Horse Thief Canyon, the mine and suspension bridge at Atlas, the ghost town of Wayne were a few of the highlights he mentioned.
