Day 5: Monday, June 7th St. Croix (Again?)

5am

I am typing without my glasses, so please excuse any gigantic errors.  We are trying something different today.  At home when Cody would wake up I would play with him in the living room or my room quietly until the rest of the house would wake up.  Scott decided this would be a good idea again.  Thus Cody and I are hanging out in the van while Brooke hopefully catches some more shuteye.  Cody is much more of a climber than Brooke was at this age and he is happily climbing on the bins, strollers (recognize the stroller Carla?  It works fabulously! Thank you!), and the booster seat.  We were treated to a beautiful sunrise while we were hanging out too.

6:20 am

Cody fell asleep on my lap and after ten minutes I carefully put him on the bed of the van.  Hopefully, Brooke and Scott are getting some extra shuteye too. We are planning on staying near this area again and visiting some sites nearby that were recommended by a great park volunteer named Wes.

I am thinking of my mom today.  She has been told that she is going blind, and she is headed to the retina specialist to get another potentially helpful shot of medicine today.  I’m not sure anybody is ever old enough to be told they are going blind, but my mom is ridiculously too young to hear such news.  They unfortunately do not know enough about her rare hereditary condition yet to be able to give her many answers.

We ate lunch and played some ball at an expansive lush green park across the Mississippi from Historic Ft. Snelling.  We ran into some of the volunteers at the Fort on their way out after entertaining six hundred school children. Unfortunately, the Ft. is only open Tues – Sat. Memorial Day through Labor Day.  Today is Monday.  Oh well!  We did find out that they do reenacting on a daily basis and that there is a big Civil War reenactment August 6th & 7th.  We are loving the Metro trains in Minneaplois.  They are all decorated with gigantic ads.  There was one train decorated to look like a giant radio.  We are stopped right now at the sight of the fallen highway bridge.  Scott and I have been taking turns going to look at sights while Cody is napping.
