Day 12: June 14th: In Search of the Buffalo or “Don’t Worry Hun. It’s only a couple of miles…”

Can you see Cody’s face?  No, that’s because his crazy arrow helmet won’t let him put his head back.

Welcome to our gorgeous sunny Monday.  The day really couldn’t get any more perfect.  Thus we thought today would be a great day for a bike ride, and while we were at it, we decided to go on the buffalo trail. We ate breakfast, pulled down the bikes (which isn’t easy when they are ten feet in the air), slapped some sunscreen on everyone, and we were off.  I’m pretty sure I made it 3/4 of a mile, but I can’t be sure because my darn bike computer wasn’t even saying good morning today.  The beautiful “ride” was all up and down, and up and down.  We aren’t just talking my neighborhood hills either.  Scott, the avid biker,  and may I add ridiculously in-shape guy (when he worked he worked out twice a day and sometimes more) said, “It’s no big deal hun.  I’m doing it.”  I would love to be as in shape as he is, and someday I vow to be there again, but right now it is hard to find time with two cuties.  One is always awake and pulling on me.  I know, “Excuses, excuses.”  The  point is, I’ll be the first to admit I’m not in shape and towing an extra twenty pounds of cute Cody up large hills, well let’s just say Scott’s reminder of the “fun down hills”  wasn’t enticing enough to get me to keep me on in search of the buffalo.

Easy enough, I went back to the campsite, took off the now sleeping Cody, put him in his car seat, took off my bike helmet, and went in search of the buffalo via the van.  I forgot to mention that before we left I asked if Scott had the map.  “Map, no, it wasn’t much help anyway.”  Silly me.  I know better than to just take Scott’s word that something is just a “few” miles away.  He will tell you that it was really only a ten mile trip, but for me that was nine miles too many on very hilly roads.

Back to the buffalo trek. I drove for an hour in search of Scott.  It shouldn’t have been that difficult to find him, but I never did.  He never found the buffalo either.  He did see their stalls, I guess there are thirty of them, and some other cool scenery, but no buffalo.  Scott said they saw the marsh, a garter snake, and some neat wrens.

Brooke at the buffalo viewing area.  The picture of Brooke with her head down is her on her potty in the back of the van.  Cody is roaming around without a diaper and thinks he’s pretty cute that he ran away.  Brooke requested I put in the picture.  Her potty has been one of the best items we have brought along  Whenever she needs to go potty, no matter where we are, we just pull over and she takes care of business.

We do have a SIM chip now, but have turned the phone off, as it costs $0.40 a minute.  Today we are in search of the Tunnels of Mouse Jaw, a bank for some Canada cash, gas (not many stations around), and a post office to get some Canada stamps.  Have a fabulous day!
