Technology for travel

In packing for the trip I started to think about how much baggage is “required” in the digital age.  Digital Camera, PDA, Computer, cell phone and all supporting spiderweb of cords.  We considered not bringing the laptop but decided it could double as a DVD player for the kids, and for that alone it would be worth its weight in gold.

Laptop More secure than using cafe computer, children’s games, movies, music

  • Case
  • Charger/Power cable
  • Network patch cable
  • USB Drive for backup and transferring data to internet cafe computers if necessary
  • Discs to rebuild computer if necessary
  • External Mouse
  • eBooks (Vehicle Manual)

PDA I plan to do a lot of reflecting and thinking and  I prefer to capture these thoughts electronically.  Games for kids, eBooks

  • Charger

MP3 Player Kids music, foreign language learning, audio books, Yoga, relaxation

  • Charger
  • Headphones

Digital Camera

  • Charger
  • Extra battery
  • Case
  • Extra memory card
  • Memory card to usb adapter

We plan to backup pictures to the computer and USB memory stick.  When we reach a location with Internet access the pictures will then be uploaded to Dropbox.

  • Wireless Headset
