We started the day with a little wrestling, but then Cody worked quietly on his Legos while I cleaned up the tent.  We ate some French Toast in the sunny sixty degree weather.  It was a nice change from the super sticky heat.

We hiked on Profile Trail today.

Cody was really excited to find kid’s boot and hiking signs on some of the trees.  He also enjoyed the trail markers on the trees.

1 hour and 20 minutes into the hike Cody says, “Guys come on.  We need some more potty talk.” Scott says our hikes are potty talk powered.  I tried to keep things clean by singing some songs.  He was biting, but later I caught him singing, “Everything is Awesome.”

Cody found a snail on the leaf below his hand. He doesn’t often like to smile for pictures, but another Snaily put a giant smile on his face.

We watched some little insects get a free ride on a centipede. Cody told Brooke and Scott, “You guys are going too fast.”

Scott asked, “Are we going too fast for you?”

Cody responded, “Well, you are missing some things. You gotta look around on the ground.”

We stopped at a campsite along the trail.

Brooke found some downed trees that looked like a bird.

It took us two hours to get to the Profile View.

The kids HAD to have hiking sticks for the walk back.  They each had two hiking sticks for part of the hike.  Once they found one stick they needed another better stick.

We stopped to play in the creek.  I found it interesting that Brooke dammed the part of creek she was playing with and Cody opened up the part he was playing with to let the water run free. Brooke found her first crawdad in the creek.  Cody found some salamanders.

The hike took us a total of four hours with breaks included.  It was close to a 5 mile hike. The second longest hike ever for the kids.

After lunch Scott went on a bike ride and took the van.  There was a creek to play in, but the kids were determined to just stay at our campsite.  The no-see-um bugs were bad and it was hot.  It didn’t take long before the kids were trying to find the best way to bother each other.  It wasn’t all crazy, Cody worked in his workbook for a bit and Brooke drew. Eventually I convinced them to get on their bikes and we rode down to the creek.  Scott was gone from 4:30 – 6.  He mountain biked at Beech Mountain. He rode the Emerald Outback Loop.  It is said to be the highest mountain biking east of the Rockies.  He took the Oz Forest Trail to the Southern Ridge Trail to Northview and then finally Jackalope.  He said it was tough.

You would have thought Scott was gone for days.  The kids were so excited to finally paint the van.

We took our first showers in 7 days, 6 hours, and 20 minutes.  Not that I was counting…

When I came back from my shower I found the kids separating seeds out of grass.  We snuggled our clean selves into the tent at 9.
