Day 45: July 31, 2013: Yellowstone Day 2 and the Tetons Part 1

We woke up to a chilly morning around seven thousand feet in Lewis Lake Campground inside Yellowstone.  After breakfast we headed to the Tetons.  On our way to the Tetons we saw Moose Falls.  While we were there a woman pointed out an osprey to us.  We wound up seeing another osprey flying at our afternoon hike back in Yellowstone at Indian Pond.

We showed up at the Teton’s northern most visitor’s center at precisely ten am.  They just happened to have a junior ranger talk about birds of prey happening on the back deck as we arrived.  We learned about eagles, osprey, falcons and their journey from the endangered list to thriving.  We worked on the junior ranger activities and then watched a video on the 1988 Yellowstone fire.  It was funny going to the Tetons to watch a video on Yellowstone.  Then we hiked along Jackson Lake right behind the visitor’s center for about a half hour.  We could have taken the canoe for a trip around the lake, but we are getting down to the wire with our time, so we put that on the next time list.

After earning a Teton National Park patch we hopped in the car and drove up to Signal Mountain Road to view the Tetons.

Cody was being goofy causing trouble with Scott by blowing on him.  The picture above and to the right is the kids waiting “patiently” while we were stopped at a construction point.  I think they were trying to fly. Construction does not take a vacation, even if we are trying to.  Thankfully the stops weren’t more than ten minutes a piece.  After the Tetons we headed back north up to Yellowstone.  One of my favorite camping memories with Scott many moons ago was in the Tetons.  I had never seen wild buffalo before our camping trip to the Tetons in college.  The buffalo roamed right through our campground while we sat around the fire.  Another thing to add to the list when we return this way: camping in the Tetons.
