The kids are doing a great job of sleeping through some pretty incredible noise at the campground.  They slept through a military jet at midnight and some motorcyclists at 4:30 in the morning.  It reminds me of Scott during our first year in the dorms at college.  It took Scott two weeks before he was able to completely sleep through the daily fire alarms.  It was a good skill to have until there was a real fire.

I tried to snuggle with Cody when he first woke up, but his little eyes lit up and he said, “I want to go out!”  He is loving his new biking independence.

We walked around the campground together again and went fishing.  This campsite is a angler’s dream.  There are no electric or water hook ups here, so most of the RVs have their own solar panels.  This led into a great discussion about renewable energy.

This is going to be a running theme, but I don’t want to leave here.  The site is incredibly beautiful, but beyond that we really (and that word is not strong enough) really, enjoyed our neighbors.  Shane came by giving away some of his camping food because he is leaving tomorrow.  It was almost like he said a swear word, “leaving.”  It pained me. Not allowed.  Reality is not allowed back.  Bummer, because I know it is coming back whether I like it or not.

We shared a trout and hamburger dinner with Shane and Westren.  They brought so much food over I can’t remember it all: chips, pudding… It was nice to feel part of the campground community for a while.  The campsite was incredible, but the company was indescribable.  I had to laugh at Shane’s marriage advice though, “Stay married man, child support will kill you.”  This elicited a hug and head kiss from Scott and a hearty laugh from me.  Shane finished with, “Besides you seem to have a pretty good one you want to hold on to.”

.

I finally got a picture of Cody riding around the campground. Brooke could have ridden around a lot more than she did, but she was busy directing Cody’s riding instead.  She made up signals for their “Road Rally.”  We went canoeing on Eagle’s Nest Lake.  There were some beautiful canyon walls on the drive there.

Cody enjoyed just running his hands through the water.  We sang “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” in rounds.

We were on the lake for about an hour and a half.  The last few minutes of our trip a thunderstorm rolled in and the winds picked up.  We would have made it in just fine, but a gentleman offered us a tow in.  The boat ramp was “hazardous” as this sign states.  The water level was down about 15 feet locals said.  Consequently there was a large drop off the concrete ramp to the water.  We watched trucks maneuver the perilous boat removal for quite a while.

This was a picture Scott and Brooke took on a hike together.  Brooke and Cody were busy creating a river system at our campsite.  Cody was too busy biking to stop to eat.  Notice it was cold enough for him to have a jacket on.

Shane and Scott enjoying dinner.  Scott planning the next day’s events. Brooke finally finding a buddy to bike with, Braelee.  The last picture is just funny.  This was after Cody “cleaned” his feet.  I had to super scrub them before I would let him in the tent for bed.  After I read to the kids and helped them settle for a bit Scott and I went back to Shane and Westren’s site to chat.  Another buddy of Shane’s stopped by.  Shane introduced us.  Shane stated and we heartily agreed, “These are my camping neighbors who just arrived yesterday, but I feel like I’ve known them forever.”  We were so blessed to have found each other.
