Back “on the road again,” I hear Willie singing in my head as I paint an outline of the adventure we will see on this year’s road trip.  His internal tune comes rolling to a stop about 30 miles into the trip when we hit our first Wal-Mart.  Those of you who know us realize that we will leave no stone unturned when it comes to our quest to visit every Wal-Mart in the country.

While April picked up a few groceries, I gassed up the van.  A man nicknamed Simple, from Missouri, gave me some advise for our trip down to the Ozarks.  He said to visit a few places, all of which I need to lookup.  If you are familiar with them please post in the comments  specifics or for that matter, other suggestions.

  • Rymers (sp) – great primitive camping and caving.  Between Mountain View and ?
  • Jerk Tail – North of Wynona 19 North –> Salem –> Round Springs -  Primitive Camping and Caving
  • Dot Mill – Amish Ice cream
  • Current River – Bring masks so the kids can look for arrowheads

The cuties area fast asleep while I write this.  From what I hear, they were thoroughly worn out from playing at the Castle Park and running through the “kid wash” at Meme and Pepe’s.  Thanks Meme and Pepe for watching them this morning while we finished packing!

-- Scott

Two hours and twenty minutes into the trip Brooke asked the inevitable question, “Are we there yet?” The first time I answered, “We’ll be there when the van stops.”  The second time, five minutes later, I answered, “Yep, we’re here hop on out.”  That stopped the question for a while and prompted a look of disbelief and dissatisfaction.  I offered items out of the “keep-a-kid-happy bin,” but nothing peeked her interest.  Scott offered his IPhone for kids games and she is happily playing Life.

Two and a half hours in: Brooke had her first potty accident.  The rest stop was 1 mile away.  Thankfully we are not driving far today.  Brooke took close to an hour nap and Cody is still sleeping two hours later with some brief interruptions..

Cody’s favorite activity: driving.

Mommy’s favorite car time activity for the cuties: napping.

A very cool boat with a phone. Cody made quite a few long distance calls…

Visitor’s Center for I & M canal.

The kids playing at the first campground.

More about that campground to come…

A fun first day!
